I rolled my eyes when I first saw Noah Cyrus was performing – Miley’s little sister, right? Billy Ray Cyrus’s daughter? I thought it was gonna be a snooze fest. I didn’t even bother to hit play. But then I saw Blake Shelton’s name pop up, and I’m like, “Alright, let’s give this a shot.” Big mistake thinking that. By the time the song ended, I was glued to the screen, replaying it over and over like a crazy person. And when Noah and Blake took the stage at the Opry, it was like the roof was gonna cave in – pure, unadulterated magic. The unlikely fusion of pop and country was like a ticking time bomb, and when it detonated, the whole place went up in flames. That performance of “New Country” was everything – raw, explosive, and utterly captivating. And in that moment, it was clear: Noah Cyrus is a force to be reckoned with, a hidden gem who’s about to blow the lid off this industry.

Growing up with Billy Ray Cyrus as her father, it seemed only fitting that Noah Cyrus would eventually follow in his footsteps with a career in the music industry.

With most of her siblings also finding their footing in the entertainment business, Noah found herself acting in shows like Hannah Montana and American Horror Stories.

But back in 2022, she made her debut in music with her album The Hardest Part. Gaining praise for her style and voice, on Friday, she returned with her second studio album, I Want My Loved Ones To Go With Me.

And besides featuring her collaboration with her father, Noah teamed up with country star Blake Shelton for a special duet.

Featuring a total of 11 songs, the album came packed with collaborations with Fleet Foxes, Ella Langley, and even Bill Callahan. Billy Ray Cyrus even showcased his songwriting abilities when he penned the song “With You” for the album. But when it came to Shelton, he found his way into the studio for the song ‘New Country.”

Besides releasing the album on Friday, Noah decided to celebrate the moment by releasing a music video alongside Shelton. Although having the ability to work with any star, she told the LA Times, she knew she needed the country singer. And thankfully, she followed her instincts. “It was like a God thing telling me you have to reach out to Blake. When I heard that song, it was Blake’s from the beginning. And Blake made it happen.”

The Tough Love Blake Shelton Received From Billy Ray Cyrus

While Shelton could have turned down the collaboration, Noah believed the duet was more than happenstance. “It felt like this spiritual thing that was bound to happen — something that was just written up there in the stars was having Blake on this record.”

Shelton’s time with the Cyrus family went far beyond working with Noah. Back in 2001, the singer made his television debut when performing at the CMA Awards. Admitting he was “scared to death” about the moment, he eventually rubbed shoulders with Billy Ray Cyrus.

Sharing his emotions with Billy Ray Cyrus, the country singer offered Shelton some tough love. “ He’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ And I go, ‘I’ve just never been on TV and I gotta sing.’ And he goes, ‘Hey, man, listen. Even if you do great, this is the music industry. Most of those people are gonna make fun of you and roll their eyes anyway, man. This is the music industry! You need to toughen up a little bit. Man, people make fun of you.’”

While the moment happened decades ago, Shelton concluded, “He probably doesn’t remember that, but I’m telling you right now as a young 23-year-old kid or whatever I was, I was like, ‘Oh my God! You’re right!’”
