Bob Vylan slams BBC during Glastonbury set as it’s aired live on iPlayer

Bob Vylan slammed the BBC during their Glastonbury set and showed solidarity with Kneecap, whose set is not being aired live on iPlayer.

In between songs, the frontman said: “We are seeing some f****d up things happening in the world; we are seeing the UK and the US be complicit in war crimes, in genocide happening over there to the Palestinian people.

“Look, I know we are on the BBC and we aren’t going to say anything crazy, we can leave that for them lads.”

The line at the end was in reference to the Belfast rap trio who would be playing 30 minutes after Bob Vylan’s set.

Vylan added: “But unfortunately, we have seen a strange reaction to people that come out and voice support for Palestine, even though anybody wth any kind of moral compass can surely tell that what is happening over there in Gaza is a tragedy.”

He referenced lyrics from the 2023 single, ‘Censored (Interlude)’, saying: “So look, we are not pacifist punks here over at Bob Vylan Enterprises.”

He continued: “We are the violent punks, because sometimes you gotta get your message across with violence, because that is the only language some people speak, unfortunately.”

Leaidng into the next song, he said: “We want to dedicate it to every single band that is using their platform to speak up for the Palestinian people and speak against the crimes that Israel, the UK, the US, and much of the Western world are complicit in. So this is for all of you: The Murder Capital, Kneecap, Amyl, and The Sniffers.

“We must pray, hope and wish to see a day where the Palestinian people are liberated and free from the tyranny of the Israeli government. Free Palestine!”

He then led the crowd in chanting: “Free, Free Palestine!” which has become a theme at the festival, with CMAT leading a similar chant at the end of her set yesterday.

Kneecap’s set began at 4 pm but will not be shown until later this evening, the band confirmed.

They said in a statement: “A chairde Gael….. The propaganda wing of the regime has just contacted us.

“They WILL put our set from Glastonbury today on the I-player later this evening for your viewing pleasure.

“The crowd expected today is far greater than West Holts capacity so you’ll need to be very early to catch us father….VERY EARLY”
